Placedo residents are under a boil notice after water was shut off to the town for about 10 hours Monday.

Water was initially turned off for about four hours while a leaking fire hydrant was replaced, said Nicole Castro, office manager at the Victoria County Water District 2 in Placedo.

When water was brought back on about 2 p.m., pressure in the system caused one of the flanges to bust within seven minutes, causing the town to be without water until about 8:30 p.m.

Castro said all customers who are on the notify list at the water office were called, boil water notices were posted, and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality was informed of the repairs.

She expects the boil notice to be lifted by Thursday, once the lab results of the water testing are returned.
