Editor, the Advocate:
As a female senior citizen of Goliad, my apathy toward city government came to a stunning halt when I read in the local newspaper that the only female councilwoman, Ms. Holsey, had received a threatening letter. Since that time, I have attended most City Council meetings to find that the City Council has been involved in bad financial practices. Also evident are unethical methods of and controlling actions questioning those practices.
I was appalled to learn of the March 18 executive meeting (closed to the public) at which councilwoman Holsey was bullied by the four male members, Mayor Pro Tem Ed Carter, Buddy Zavesky, Lionel Garcia and Alfred Perez. The newly hired city attorney has joined "the good ole boys" club in its harassment practices. By the way, where has Mayor Jay Harvey been while all of this has been going on? Wake up, citizens of Goliad. It's your elected officials and your money, and we cannot tolerate bullies.
