Thirteen men and women believed to be in the United States illegally were detained Tuesday morning.
Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor said that during a routine traffic stop for a seat belt violation on U.S. 59, a truck with 15 people inside tried to evade deputies by bailing from a silver Ford Expedition into nearby brush after the vehicle crashed through a fence.
The youngest of the passengers was a 15-year-old female, O'Connor said. The driver and another passenger were able to flee officers.
No arrests were made.
The 13 men and women were temporarily detained at the Victoria County Sheriff's Office and later released to the U.S. Border Patrol.
