Jaguars fall in season openers to William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The UHV women's soccer team started off its 2014 campaign with an 8-1 loss to ninth-ranked William Carey on Friday.

The eight goals allowed tied a UHV record for most goals allowed in a game. The record was set last season in an 8-0 loss to St. Mary's University.

William Carey scored three goals in the first half before dominating the second half with a 5-1 goal advantage. Claudia Saucedo scored two of the eight goals for William Carey. The Lady Crusaders also outshot the Jaguars 24-4 and 14-3 in shots on goal.

UHV's first shot came in the 58th minute when Emily Lupton's kick was wide of the net.

Jacquelyn Olle ended the shutout in the 81st minute off of an assist by Megan Huerta that made the score 6-1. However, William Carey would score twice more in the final nine minutes.

UHV men fall 3-2

The Jaguars fell one goal short of an upset win to start their season in a 3-2 loss to No. 14 William Carey.

Jack Pluckwell scored the first goal of the season for UHV in the 36th minute. Reece Hannigan later scored in the 79th minute to make the score 3-2.
