VC Medical Coding I course registration to begin next week

Registration for Victoria College's Medical Coding I course will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Health Sciences Center, Room 228, on VC's main campus. The class will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays Sept. 3 through Oct. 27 in the same location.
Admission requirements include completion of the VC Medical Assisting course and/or current employment in a medical office.
This course provides skills and knowledge in the health information field and coding for international classification of diseases - 9 and 10 - and current procedural terminology coding of insurance forms for reimbursement of medical services. It also emphasizes accurate coding of office procedures for payment/reimbursement by a patient or third party and prevention of insurance fraud. Students will learn how to describe and explain the differences and similarities among insurance plans.
This is a noncredit continuing education course that does not apply toward a credit degree, credit certification or academic transfer.
Medical coders in the Crossroads earn $20,000 a year, up to $38,000 annually.
