Formosa's internal emergency team responded to a fire at a metering station outside the plant Tuesday afternoon.

No one was injured in the fire, and minimal equipment was damaged, said Bill Harvey, Formosa Plastics Corp. spokesman.

About 1:30 p.m., Formosa's response team was deployed to a fire at a hydrocarbon line that feeds into the plant. The response team blocked the feed line and began depressurizing the line. Until the line is depressurized, the plant will flare the gas out of the line, Harvey said.

The fire occurred during a thunderstorm and may have been the result of static electricity or lightning, he said.

No outside emergency responders were called to the fire, which posed no threat to surrounding landowners, Harvey said.
