Editor, the Advocate:

The back-to-school clothing giveaway held at First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca on Aug. 23 was a huge success thanks to your generous donations of money and clothes. The whole community came together to make this a success. In addition to our Port Lavaca First United Methodist Church volunteers, we had other volunteers call offering help.

Special thanks to Sherry Shrader, who is a tireless worker, and to Ellen Kirby, Mary Kasper, Helen Thomas, Kay Lynch, Linda Caruthers, Polly Lucio, Lupe Amejorado, Carolyn Nunley, Mary Meitzen, Kathy Dietzel, Frances Aviles, Susie Daigle, Juanita Boyd, Kyle Malaer, Phyllis Hill, Mario Valdez, Annalia Valdez, Devyn Castaneda, Karen Anglin, Sarah Beaver, Annette Martinez and Carolyn Kamm.

The Clothes Closet at the church will be open the third Monday of each month with the next opening Sept. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed for that night as well as before to sort through the many boxes and bags of infants through adult clothes. If you would like to help, please call 361-552-7434.
