A snake was the culprit early Thursday that triggered an overnight power outage that left several thousand Victoria customers without service.

About 2 a.m. Thursday, the serpent found a way into some equipment in an American Electric Power substation in the downtown area, causing the outage, said Elgin Janssen, AEP spokesman.

The power was restored at 3:08 a.m., he said. The snake did not survive, but the outage created no other issues, Janssen said.
