A Department of Public Safety trooper arrested a man in Victoria on suspicion of money laundering between $20,000 and $100,000 Monday morning.

Margarito Flores Jr., 35, of Mission, was in the Victoria County Jail on Monday night.

The trooper pulled over Flores on U.S. Highway 59 South just south of the sewer plant at 7:45 a.m., according to a complaint at the Victoria County Sheriff's Office.

The trooper stopped him because he saw Flores following another vehicle too closely, according to the report.

Flores gave the trooper permission to search his 2005 gold Ford van. Inside, the trooper found two bundles of cash wrapped in clear plastic.

Flores said he had never seen the money before, according to the complaint.

The money bundled totaled $67,110, said DPS spokesman Trooper Gerald Bryant.

Flores' van was inventoried and released to a wrecker service, according to the complaint.
