Your chance to purchase that new bull has arrived.

The second annual Premium Bull and Replacement Female Sale and fourth annual Beef Trade Day are back Saturday at the Brackenridge Main Event Center in Edna.

The Jackson County Cattle Raisers Association will open the event Friday and Saturday morning with an opportunity for prospective buyers to view the animals that will be sold.

Lynn Utz, sale coordinator for the event, said more than 20 bulls are consigned for the event, including Charolais, Brangus (red and black), Hereford, Santa Gertrudis and Brahman breeds.

More than 225 top-quality replacement females will be ready for the sale, ranging from Brangus, Brahman X Hereford F1s, Star 5 Santa Gertrudis X Hereford crosses and Black Baldies breeds.

"Many of these open females will be sorted for county fair heifer projects," Utz said. "These cattle are consigned by local breeders with others consigned from surrounding areas."

Milton Charanza, sale manager of Broken Triangle Cattle Marketing in Caldwell, worked with the JCCRA to put together an outstanding set of bulls and females suitable for most herds.

"Everyone is invited to the Sale, as now is the time for people to rebuild their herds after the drought," Charanza said.

Saturday's events will begin with the fourth annual Beef Trade Day from 9 to 11 a.m. Herman Detering, of Bellville, will host a presentation titled Natural Persuasion: The Art of Gentling Cattle.

The Sale and Trade Show are presented by the Jackson County Cattle Raisers Association, the Jackson County Beef Cattle Committee and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service.
