DeWitt County Shutterbugs Contest to accept photo submissions

The DeWitt County Shutterbugs is now accepting entries for the the 2014 Annual Photography Contest/Exhibition. The submission dates are March 1-22.

More than $1,000 in prize money will be awarded in both the adult and youth divisions. The adult division has eight categories: animals, architecture, black and white, flowers/plants, landscapes/scenic, miscellaneous, portraits/people and special effects (digital or film).

First place in each category will receive $50; second place, $40; and third place, $30. The winner of a special wildflower category will receive a $75 prize, and Best in Show will receive $100.

The youth division is open to students through eighth grade and has one general category. The first-place winner will win $30; second, $20; and third, $10.

Entry fee for adults is $5 per photo with no limit of entries.

Youth entry fee is $3 per entry.

On March 29, a panel of judges will select winning photographs based on technical merit and artistic impression. Only the highest scoring photos in each category will be exhibited.

About 250 photos are displayed from the hundreds submitted. The photos will be on display from March 31 to May 1 at the Cuero Municipal Library in Cuero.

Library hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
