A new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is coming to Houston Highway.

The new fast-food restaurant will be built where Drifter's Bar & Grill and Pelican's Wharf restaurants used to be. The property was recently purchased by Victoria businessman Gary Gladden, who owns Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen on North Navarro Street.

He also co-owns Coastal Fast Foods with his sister, Linda Gladden, in which he is the franchise owner of the fried chicken restaurants.

"Many of my customers have been asking for a second location on the south side of town," he said.

Plans have been submitted to the city and are awaiting approval, he said. Gary Gladden expects construction to begin on the new Popeyes by the end of February.

"The people told us what they wanted, and we are giving it to them," he said.
