A suspect accused of hitting a 39-year-old Victoria woman with her car Saturday is a kindergarten teacher at Chandler Elementary School.

Amy Madigan, 40, of Victoria, is accused of driving her maroon 2005 Toyota Camry into a woman who was standing at the door of her home, according to a police report. Madigan's car also struck the woman's home.

Madigan is a kindergarten teacher at Chandler Elementary School, said Diane Boyett, the communications director for Victoria school district. She said this is Madigan's eighth year teaching at VISD.

Madigan was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the police report.

Susan Dorsett was transported Saturday to DeTar Hospital Navarro in serious condition after being hit by the car in the 500 block of Kingwood Drive. Her health condition has improved, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Dorsett was in fair condition Sunday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Victoria police officers responded to a report that a woman was struck by a vehicle at 5 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle also hit Dorsett's two-story brick home.

"Victoria ISD is carefully monitoring the situation. We want to assure the parents of her students that the education and well-being of their children is our highest priority," Boyett said.

Madigan was still in custody Sunday, according to a Victoria County Jail spokeswoman.
