Ray Brundrett

• Age: 79

• City/county of residence: La Ward, Jackson County

• Occupation: Oil-field consultant

• Political party: Republican

• Office seeking: Jackson County commissioner, Precinct 4

Why do you want to serve in this position?

Larry Deaton set a great example, and I wish to as well. I have the experience at job planning, cost control and for all projects that are now in the planning stage. Roads and bridges are a great concern, and if a storm hits us, I know I am qualified to make the decisions. I plan to work with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) to always have water and MREs (meals ready to eat) available in the event of a disaster.

What qualifies you to serve in this position?

I was elected director of the Jackson Electric County Co-op of Precinct 8 for the past five years. I am serving on the Texas Ground Water and Conservation District and was appointed by Larry Deaton. I am a member of the Jackson Historical Society, an Extension Association booster and work with the 4-H clubs. I am a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Edna.

If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

Recognizing this is a full-time position to serve the public, living in the precinct, I will always be available to any problems or complaints. I will recommend having all of the county employees have a picture ID in the event of any disaster, fire or storm to have access back inside our county as soon as possible. I served as a Marine in Korea and graduated as an engineer from the University of Hawaii. I worked all over the world with my diving company and salvaged the largest drilling rig in the world.
