Jury declares 17-year-old competent to stand trial

The jury found 17-year-old Derrick McKenzie competent to stand trial during the lunch hour Thursday.
McKenzie is charged with beating up a Mid-Coast Family Services counselor while at the Victoria County Juvenile Detention Center in September.
The decision comes after two days of witness testimonies and more several exhibits presented by District Attorney Steve Tyler and defense attorney Keith Weiser.
