The Victoria County Genealogical Society met Feb. 10 for the regular monthly meeting.
The group invites everyone interested in genealogy to a Beginner's Workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. March 29 at Victoria College. Computers and handouts will be available. Patsy Hand will be assisted by Martha E. Jones in giving the class. Each has more than 50 years of research experience. Call in to reserve your spot. There is no charge for this workshop.
The meeting continued with approval of the minutes and treasurer's report. Membership dues are now due for the year 2014, and we encourage everyone to please renew their membership by paying their dues.
There will be a genealogy seminar in July with Lloyd de Witt Bockstruck as the guest presenter. Our program for the evening was presented by Jay Garner who is an expert genealogist and the director of the Latter Day Saints library in Victoria. The library is open to the public Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. He explained all the different resources that can be found on the family search website. This was a very informative presentation. A number was drawn for a door prize with Lacey Newton being the winner.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 10 at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 2105 N. Ben Jordan St. The guest speaker will be Betty Trotter presenting Learning More About Your Ancestors. Members are encouraged to come, and visitors are welcome.
