West, El Campo seniors in line for medals at 4A state swim meet

AUSTIN - Victoria West senior Mallory Draper found herself in line for a medal after Friday's preliminary dives at the UIL Class 4A State Swimming and Diving Meet.

Draper received a score of 285.30 in the girls 1-meter dive. San Antonio Alamo Heights freshman Sine Scribbick will enter Saturday's finals in first place with a 323.55 score. Houston Stratford junior Phoebe Lamay is second with a 301.55.

El Campo's Kari Wilkins will have a shot at winning gold in Saturday's final race in the girls 100-yard breastroke after finishing third in Friday's preliminary race. Wilkins, a senior, finished in 1 minute, 5.93 seconds - nearly a full second behind first-place finisher Samantha Dassman, a senior at Vandergrift. Heritage freshman Rachel Ramey was second with a 1:05.29.

Wilikins's brother, Matthew, finished in 14th place in the boys' 100-yard breaststroke. He will move on to the consolation final Saturday. The El Campo sophomore finished in 1:00.55. Tomball's Trevor Strong took first place in the preliminary race with a time of 57.52 seconds.

Saturday's finals will begin at 9:30 a.m at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of University of Texas.
