The chance to win an all-expenses-paid prom night is within reach for three Victoria students.
The top three nominees for the Victoria Advocate's Prom Princess Contest are Ashley Green, Morgan DeLaGarza and Austin Supak.
"It's really cool that I got nominated," said Austin, a senior at Victoria West High School. "I'm definitely hoping to win."
Advocate judges selected the top three nominees from a pool of nomination letters.
Austin, 18, was nominated by her boyfriend's mother, Missy Janzow.
"She is strong in her Christian faith ... reading the Bible each day," Janzow wrote. "I have never met a girl of her age with such a positive, 'cup-half-full' approach to life."
Morgan, a senior at St. Joseph High School, was also nominated by her boyfriend's mother, Theresa Vasquez.
"Being raised by a single parent has presented many challenges for Morgan, and attending Catholic school her entire life has never proven to be easy," Vasquez wrote.
Morgan, 18, said she was shocked to hear she was nominated Tuesday morning.
"I don't really get nominated for things like this," Morgan said. "I'm just really excited, and I hope I become the lucky winner."
Morgan said she plans to attend prom with her boyfriend, Jerri Vasquez, a freshman at Blinn College.
Ashley, who is a special needs student with Down syndrome at Victoria West High School, was nominated by the Victoria West Life Skills staff.
"I want to dance," Ashley said. "I love prom."
Randi Stanley, one of Ashley's teachers at Victoria West, said she thought the contest would be a good opportunity for Ashley.
"She's just got a unique personality," Stanley said. "She just loves dances and dresses. She walks around the room and plans out parties."
Ashley's mother, Varchia Green, said she was happy to hear the news of her daughter's nomination.
"I am so blessed," Green said. "Ashley is such an amazing child; I couldn't have asked for a better daughter."
