A Victoria woman injured in a two-vehicle accident Sunday morning is no longer in the hospital.

The driver of a 2012 white Ford pickup told Victoria Department of Public Safety officials that he fell asleep Sunday morning while driving north on U.S. Highway 59 between Goliad and Victoria, said DPS spokesman Trooper Gerald Bryant.

The pickup hit the back of a red Pontiac Grand Am, which was also traveling north, pushing the Pontiac into a ditch, where the Pontiac flipped, Bryant said.

The driver of the Pontiac, Jesse Franklin Smith, 72, of Victoria, was transported to DeTar Hospital Navarro, Bryant said.

On Tuesday, a DeTar spokeswoman said Smith was not a patient at the hospital.

The driver of the pickup, Jason Crawford Hughes, 34, of Pearland, received a ticket for failure to control speed, Bryant said. Hughes was not injured in the accident.
