All motorists entering traffic from a parking lot, alley, driveway or building must first stop.

Why the emphasis on this particular traffic law?

Drivers should always be conscious of pedestrians and other vehicles when leaving a parking lot.

By stopping the vehicle every time before entering the roadway, a driver can observe traffic flow on the roadway to safely enter the street.

One should also keep in mind the speed limit of the roadway being entered as fast approaching vehicles will close the distance faster and may cause a collision. Remember to give yourself plenty room to pick up speed and merge with the flow of traffic safely.

For more information on this law, go to the Texas Transportation Code Sec. 545.256.

The Victoria Police Department reminds you to drive safe and obey all the traffic laws. The life you save may be your own.
