A natural gas well belonging to Magnum Producing LP sprung a leak Sunday morning. DeWitt County Sheriff's office notified south Meyersville residents around 7:30 a.m. in case they wanted to evacuate.

"The evacuations were not mandatory," said Carl Bowen, a detective with the sheriff's office. "Most folks elected to stay home."

Bowen said the sheriff's office was notified of the aboveground leak by the company. He said Magnum Producing employees attempted to shut off an emergency valve manually but were unable to do so.

Boots & Coots International Well Control Inc. were at the site Sunday evening, Bowen said. He said no one was injured in the gas leak.
