New management named at Victoria College eateries

New management is coming to the Victoria College dining facilities.

Aramark Refreshment Services, which manages the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguar Hall Dining, now manages all three of the college's eateries - The Cove, The Grind and Cafe Espresso.

Victoria College President Tom Butler shared the news with college trustees at a regular monthly board meeting Monday afternoon.

"They'll be bringing in their marketing expertise," Butler said. "We've been really impressed with their ideas."

All employees previously paid and managed by the college were transferred to Aramark's supervision and payroll.

Starbucks coffee and Subway sandwiches will continue to be served at the same locations, Butler said.

Christina Barrera, UHV's Jaguar Hall dining food service director, will also direct food services at the college, Butler said.

The college had been looking for a new management service since September. A five-year contract was drafted in December, said Keith Blundell, Victoria College vice president of administrative services.

The change was motivated by a need for more efficiency in management and operational costs, Blundell said.

The cafes will remain under ownership by Victoria College, Butler said.

In other business, the Victoria College Foundation's Tradition of Excellence Annual Giving Campaign has raised $180,000 from the beginning of the school year through December.

The annual campaign runs from November through March 15, said Jennifer Yancey, Victoria College vice president of college advancement and external affairs.

"Community support allows us to provide student scholarships, grants to faculty and staff for innovative classroom projects and technology," Yancey said. "There's still time to support the annual giving campaign."
