Arnold Road Bridge reopened to traffic Tuesday, Commissioner Kevin Janak announced.

The bridge was closed in June for a complete replacement with the Federal Off-System Bridge Program but exceeded the four-month time frame Janak proposed.

He said the delay came down to issues from the contractor but would not elaborate on specifics.

The project was a partnership between the county and the Texas Department of Transportation.

"There were some subcontractors that were part of the project, and they were waiting for them to release their portion of the work," Janak said.

That delay took about a month before another subcontractor could be brought in.

"When people bid jobs, and when the job comes available, then they might have extra work, and sometimes, it takes time," Janak said.

Another bridge on that road was replaced in 2011. Janak has more projects scheduled for Precinct 2, including the replacements of Kohutek Road bridge in 2015 and Oliver Road bridge in 2016.

"Thanks to everybody for being so patient," Janak said. "Now, we have two nice bridges that we won't have to worry about failure for years and years to come."
