Community members older than 50 have a chance to learn about the benefits of owning a small business at a workshop in Thursday.
The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center is partnering with the U.S. Small Business Administration and AARP to host the workshop.
According to AARP, more than 7.4 million Americans older than age 50 work for themselves.
"These entrepreneurs represent one of the fastest-growing groups of new business owners," said Farhang Niroomand, dean of the UHV School of Business Administration. "Many in the baby boomer generation are starting to recognize the benefits of working for themselves as they get older."
The Encore Entrepreneurs workshop will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of successful encore entrepreneurs, who will share their lessons learned and advice for making the leap to business ownership.
