Forty-eight hours after getting a 5-3 opening day victory over Doane College, the Jaguars find themselves with three straight losses.
Doane (3-1) scored six runs in the first three innings of Monday's game en route to a 7-6 win. UHV (1-3) plated runs in the first three innings, as well, to make it 6-4 after three innings.
Doane's Jake Smith scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the fifth inning when Ethan Schroeder was hit by Bo Sheridan's pitch with the bases loaded.
In the sixth, Kyle Bludau singled to right field and drove in Dylan Blaha to make the score 7-5. Ryan Suescun added another run for the Jaguars in the sixth when he moved to third base on a wild pitch and then scored when Doane's Matt Cuellar's throw to third base was off target.
It would be the last time UHV could cross home plate.
Cody Carver (0-1) took the loss for the Jaguars, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up six runs (one unearned) on five hits, six walks and one strikeout. Sheridan saw the most innings worked of any UHV pitcher - lasting 3.1 innings - and allowed just one run and recorded three strikeouts.
Bludau led UHV at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Stephen Shorkey also had an RBI on a sacrifice fly to right-center field.
UHV heads to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
