The flag outside Victoria Fire Department Station No. 1 in the 600 block of East Goodwin Avenue was retired Thursday afternoon to honor Victoria Fire Department Capt. Celeste Hunter and her 20 years of service with the department.
Hunter completed her final shift Thursday and plans to celebrate her retirement by taking a trip to Alaska.
Engineer Steven Martin also was honored for his 20 years of service to the department at the ceremony. The flag at station No. 2 on Miori Lane, where Martin worked, will retire Friday.
Martin plans to move to Austin with his new wife.
The two retirees, along with Fire Chief Taner Drake, stood in front of the poles as a color guard took down the flag and gave it to Hunter.
Drake said Hunter and Martin truly made an impact with the people they worked with, which he said was evident by the number of off-duty, retired and on-duty firefighters at the ceremony.
