Crossroads Independence Day plans

The Crossroads will celebrate Independence Day in grand style with events planned throughout the area. Here are some of the planned events:
Victoria - 2014 Miller Lite Blast Off. 6 p.m. Friday at the Victoria Community Center grounds, 2905 E. North St., Victoria. Cost is free. The Texas Rhythm band will begin playing at 6 p.m., followed by the Bleu Edmonson band. Firework show starts at 9:30 p.m., followed by a Rhythm of the Road concert at 10 p.m.
Victoria - Saxet Lake Fourth of July. Open until 11 p.m. Friday. Free. Community members will be allowed to shoot off their own fireworks at Saxet Lake Park, 2 miles south of the city limits on U.S. Highway 59. Volunteer fire fighters will be on hand.
Victoria - H-E-B Plus!'s sixth annual Fourth of July Parade. 9 a.m. Friday for children aged 2 to 12 years. Participants are asked to decorate their bicycle, tricycle or wagon in the spirit of Independence Day. Lineup at 8:30 a.m. in store parking lot near the field, 6106 N. Navarro St., entry deadline is Tuesday.
Point Comfort - The 12th annual Independence Day Fireworks Display: the Bash at the Bay. 9:15 p.m. Saturday or when it turns dark. Activities include a free pool party at 6 p.m. in the City Park. Swimming pool capacity is 250 people.
Port O'Connor - The annual fireworks display will begin at dusk Saturday on King Fisher Beach. Vendors will sell beverages, food and crafts in advance of the fireworks. The Port O'Connor Chamber of Commerce advises people to bring chairs and blankets.
Cuero - Fourth of July celebration in the Cuero Municipal Park at the basketball pavilion. The Grace Episcopal Church will host a carnival. Live entertainment by I-69 will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Fireworks display at 9 p.m., sponsored by the city of Cuero.
Goliad - Coleto Creek Park is hosting a fireworks show over the water at 9 p.m. Friday. Coleto Creek Park is located midway between Victoria and Goliad off U.S. Highway 59.
Edna - Independence Day celebration and fireworks 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Brackenridge Park and Campground, 891 Brackenridge Parkway. Free. The display will cap off a day of events, which include the antique tractor show, kiddie tractor pull and shaved ice. Free parking available at the grassy field across from Hafernick Center.
Shiner - Shiner Chamber of Commerce will host the 35th annual Half Moon Holiday Fourth of July on Friday and Saturday at Green Dickson Park, off Farm-to-Market Road 351. Friday, events begin at noon. There will be a salsa and margarita contest, and Chad Sullins and the Rankin Twins will perform. Saturday, events begin at 7:30 a.m. There will be a 5K and a 10K, a parade starting on 16th Street, washer tournament, pie contest and auction. There will also be craft and food vendors offering American fare such as lemonade, hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue and shrimp po' boys. Los Kolaches, Zane Williams and Charlie Robinson will perform Saturday night. A fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. For more information, call 361-594-4180 or visit shinerhalfmoon.com.
Woodsboro - Parade at 10 a.m. Friday around the Woodsboro Square. Parade entries will meet at 9:10 a.m. People can line up around First Street. For more information, contact Rosie Trevino at 361-237-0408.
Bayside - Parade starts at 4 p.m. Friday at the community center, 909 First St. Parade lineup begins at 3 p.m. The parade runs to the Bayside City Park, where there will be a pot luck. Anyone attending is asked to bring a dish and lawn chairs. The event finishes off at night when the party is moved to the cotton gin on Farm-to-Market Road 136, where there will be a fireworks display.
Austwell - The city will have a golf cart parade Friday and will meet at Ricardo Torres Circle. Anyone wanting to enter their golf cart or all-terrain vehicle is invited to attend. Parade begins at 10 a.m., and prizes are given for first-, second- and third-place parade entries.
Tivoli - The city will have its Fourth of July parade at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Tivoli's city park. After the parade, there will be a flag raising and a benefit lunch with chicken, rice, beans, potato salad and drink for $7.
