Thumbs-up, thumbs-down; it's your choice

Thumbs-up to the gator catcher, who was able to quickly defuse the situation. He kept both people and the gator from being hurt.

Look carefully - the gator is close to 7 feet long.

Harvey, Goliad

Thumbs-down to whomever filled up the dumpster at the Boys and Girls Club of Victoria Inc. with their trash. You have been recorded and will be prosecuted. The nerve of some people. This is a high traffic area. Do you actually believe you were not seen by others? I guess if your trash didn't end up in our dumpster, you would have dumped it somewhere on our county roads. What a shame.

Marc, Victoria

Thumbs-down to the railroad storing all that mess on the side of Highway 59 in front of Hardin Tubular Sales. The grass cannot be mowed, and it is not a very pleasant sight for people coming into Victoria.

Peggy, Inez

Thumbs-down to the traffic light at Navarro Street and Goodwin Avenue. Traffic on Goodwin Avenue piles up even when there is very little traffic on Navarro. It needs to be reset.

John, Victoria

Thumbs-down to the large brick sign east of the Victoria airport property on Highway 59, welcoming visitors to "ICTORIA."

Joe, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Victoria police officers Bryan Knief and Anthony Vaccaro for their compassion and good example in purchasing a cart full of groceries for a needy family.

Thumbs-up and thank you to the Victoria County United Way for giving out $644,000 in grants to community organizations and nonprofits.

Thumbs-up to the Victoria Educational Associates driving school for its efforts to educate students about the dangers of driving while drunk, fatigued or texting.

Thumbs-up to the arrival of the special set for the Theatre Victoria production of "Beauty and the Beast." We're looking forward to seeing the show again.

Thumbs-up to the effort to restore and repair the Matagorda Island Lighthouse by the Friends of Aransas and Matagorda Island National Wildlife Refuges.

Thumbs-up to the volunteers who patrol the beaches of Matagorda Island to find and excavate the nests of endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles.
