The man wanted in connection with a Cuero home invasion was arrested Tuesday in Victoria.

Late Sunday night, Cuero police officers were called to a home in the 200 block of East Morgan Avenue, where residents said a man broke into their home and tried to force a woman to leave with him. Another woman in the home chased the man away by firing a shotgun, striking him in the upper back, according to a Cuero Police Department news release issued Monday.

Officers searched the area but weren't able to find the man, according to the news release.

Monday, Victoria police officers were called to DeTar Hospital Navarro because a man came to the emergency room complaining of pain from a shotgun wound to the upper back and head, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Cuero Police Department.

The injured man refused to provide information on how the injury occurred and left the hospital against medical advice.

The patient was identified as Claudio Gonzales, 46, of Victoria, according to the news release.

An arrest warrant for Gonzales was obtained from DeWitt County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Peggy Mayer, and Gonzales was arrested Tuesday on burglary of habitation charges, a felony with a recommended bond of $200,000.

Gonzales was booked into the Victoria County Jail but was later transferred to the DeWitt County Jail, Lt. Thomas Eisman, a spokesman with the Victoria County Sheriff's Office, said Wednesday.
