The Victoria Unit of the Adult Probation Department provides a number of services to the community; among those are the Victim Restitution Program and the Community Service Restitution Program.
The Victim Restitution Program is a service provided in which the court orders a defendant to pay restitution to the victim for the loss he or she has suffered. The defendant pays this amount through the adult probation department as a condition of probation. During the month of June 2014, $12,492.43 was collected as restitution by the department and dispensed to 52 victims.
The Community Service Restitution Program is a service in which defendants are ordered by the court to perform work for a nonprofit group, church, school or a part of government. This program provides an actual dollar savings to the community because the work performed is needed. During the month of June 2014, the program provided 2,859 hours of volunteer service worth $20,727.75 to the community.
