This month will be an excellent time to check our teaching opportunities and come see the fine artwork for sale in our gallery and a great demonstration by Allen Lara on drawing during our monthly meeting.
First, let me tell you about the workshop Lara will offer in drawing with pencil, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. He said this class can be for beginners and for those who have experience but would like further instruction. Pencil and prismacolor will be taught to those 19 or older. Check with the Art League for information and list of supplies at 361-572-0825. Cost for this three-day workshop is $105.
Lara will be our featured Artist of the Month, and we will have a reception for him before our regular meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Following his reception, he will demonstrate drawing at our meeting at 2:30 p.m. This will give anyone who may be interested in his class an opportunity to view his work, see how good he really is (and he is really good) and watch his demonstration.
Lara is also receptive to continue teaching one day a week after the workshop for those who want more instruction.
Also, I will offer a two-week class in beginning pottery starting July 21 with a few days of that for drying and firing your projects. I will offer a 1 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 9 p.m. class, your choice. For more information, call 361-575-3216 or 361-649-8309.
Jim Feig will again offer a beginning digital photography class, meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays for five weeks. Cost will be $90. Feig will also offer a basic portrait lighting with electronic flash class. This will be a one-day class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 26. Cost is $40. Call Feig at 361-576-0578 or email email@example.com.
Jim Frank will demonstrate making ceramic faces and heads during our August meeting and will offer a class sometime in August or September.
Later, we will have the talented artist Angie Banta Brown, of New Braunfels. She will have a demonstration followed by a three-day workshop. Brown is fabulous with beginners as well as advanced watercolorists. More information on these two opportunities will be in August's Art Corner Column as well as at the Art League.
We hope many of your children are participating in our children's classes being held this month. Claire Santellana just completed a week's class and is now teaching from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays for elementary and intermediate children. Cost for four classes is only $50. Santellana's number is 361-894-7380 or 361-218-9566 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sarah Weatherly is offering Kids Paint the Town classes from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays. Cost is $35.
Remember to call these talented artists to give your child a creative activity this summer. Weatherly's number is 254-723-8080 or email at email@example.com.
Remember that the Victoria Art League has a wonderful gallery full of paintings, sculptures, pottery, jewelry, wood-turned objects, etc., and we would love to have you come visit and see what a fine selection our community art center offers in fine art. Come see us.
