Thumbs-up to DeTar for all their awesome, smart employees, from admitting to discharge. Everyone involved in my recent outpatient surgery care was awesome.

Linda, Refugio

Thumbs-up to the Nail House on Sam Houston Drive for having such a clean, bright atmosphere - and best of all - no harsh, chemical smell. My friends and I definitely plan on going back.

Katie, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Platinum Pawn on Navarro for having a shop that is well-organized. Easy to find what I'm looking for. Very helpful service given to customers, too.

Timmy, Victoria

Thumbs-down to the traffic light at Navarro and Goodwin streets. I agree with John's thumbs-down that ran in the Advocate on July 12. This light needs to be reset. It's hard to get to work in a timely manner when you have to wait so long on this light.

Ann, Victoria

Thumbs-down to "Saturday Night Live" for not renewing Noel Wells' contract. She was the only reason I bothered to watch this year. Now, we'll never get to see the "Zooey Deschanel Show."

Patrick, Victoria

Thumbs-up to the United Way, along with everyone who supported it, for helping local nonprofits to the tune of $704,000.

Thumbs-up on the movie screening of "Frozen" in summer, the first of the Leo J. Welder Center's summer films using the new digital projector.

Thumbs-up to the possibility of a second entrance at Victoria West High School.

Thumbs-up to the Victoria Nitrous track and field team for qualifying to compete in the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, this summer.

Thumbs-up to the dedication of a state historical marker being placed at Edna Elementary School, representing the inspiration and success that arose out of adversity for once segregated Mexican students.

Thumbs-up to Kate Klimist and Brett Jones, who are reprising their roles as Beauty and the Beast, and to all the talented actors and musicians who will once again deliver a stellar show in the much anticipated musical performance, "Beauty and the Beast," returning to the stage from Wednesday through July 27 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center.

Thumbs-up to Victoria Police Officer John Turner on receiving the 2014 award for Outstanding Crime Prevention Specialist in the small agency category at a recent training conference, hosted by the Texas Crime Prevention Association. Thumbs-up to Victoria Police Crime Prevention Unit for receiving an award for Outstanding Crime Prevention Agency for making substantial contributions to its community.
