J.R. Hinojosa is doing all he can to help his daughter become a singer.

After auditioning for a national talent scout in San Antonio, 8-year-old Mia Hinojosa was selected to compete and show off at the International Presentation of Presenters in Los Angeles.

To help raise money for the convention and traveling expenses, Hinojosa will hold a brisket-plate fundraiser beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Lion's Club Pavilion in Riverside Park.

Plates are $8.

"All her life, her dream was to go to California and sing," Hinojosa said. "She loves pop music and can sing all of the songs that play on the radio. I'll find the way to get her out there."

International Presentation of Performers, commonly referred to as iPOP, is a biannual convention in Los Angeles where national finalists, such as Mia, audition for professionals in the entertainment industry.
