The start of school is just around the corner, and the Victoria County United Way, Wal-Mart and the Victoria school district have teamed up to "Fill the Bus" with school supplies for local children.

The Fill the Bus school supply campaign will take place at the Wal-Mart on North Navarro Street and the Wal-Mart on Houston Highway from Monday to Aug. 8. Bins will be placed at the entrances of both stores.

All donations will be given to the school district, which will distribute supplies to students in need as well as to teachers to create a learning environment that is creative, positive and fun.

"The individual contributions requested are small and modest, but those extra notebooks, folders, packs of markers or other items can help make the beginning of the school year brighter for local children and their families," said Clifford Grimes, executive director of Victoria County United Way.

A ribbon cutting and campaign launch will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at the Wal-Mart store located at North Navarro Street..
