Thumbs-up to Victoria Southwest's baseball team for making Victoria history. Second in Texas East championship. Each one of you, along with Coach Abe Zarate, made all of us proud.

Mary, Placedo

Thumbs-up to Linzy at Complete Nutrition for being so encouraging and supportive of my new health goals. He really makes it easier to stay on track.

Katie, Victoria

Thumbs-down to Gov. Rick Perry for sending National Guard troops to our border with Mexico. It appears to be nothing more than a publicity stunt to enhance his chances to get the Republican nomination for president in 2016.

This stunt will obviously accomplish nothing and will cost us Texas taxpayers $12 million per month. Republican politicians doing foolish things like this is part of what helps people like Barack Obama get elected president.

Joe, Victoria

Thumbs-down to probation violators. Don't the police have enough to do without arresting the same people over and over? Catch and release is for fish - not criminals.

Dennis, Victoria

Thumbs-down to Kevin Janak, Precinct 2 county commissioner. The roads on Sunset and Carefree, in the Mission Valley area, are in such a mess. There is no tar in some places. Please take care of this. The people who live on these roads pay taxes, too. It's been 15 years since the roads have been taken care of. We need help now.

Keith, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Nathan Palmer for so cleverly transforming Brett Jones into a very convincing Beast in "Beauty and the Beast," now being performed at the Victoria Fine Arts Center.

Thumbs-up to everyone purchasing extra school supplies so they can donate to the Fill the Bus campaign over the next couple of weeks at the Wal-Mart on North Navarro and the Wal-Mart on Houston Highway.

Thumbs-up to Presidio La Bahia Director Newton Warzecha on being recognized by the Texas Historical Commission with the John L. Nau III Award of Excellence in Museums for his contributions to preserving, promoting and securing funding for the historic fort.

Thumbs-up to the First United Methodist Church of Yoakum for raising $3,000 at its annual golf tournament in June and then donating it to Warrior's Weekend.

Thumbs-up to TxDOT for encouraging safe driving habits by placing oversized traffic safety signs in the energy-producing areas of the Eagle Ford Shale region. Drivers adhering to these safety messages will make our roads much safer to travel.
