Generals slam their way past Pump Jacks

The Victoria Generals saved the best for last.

The Generals exploded with hot bats in the eighth inning, hammering the East Texas Pump Jacks for 11 runs in the frame to record a 15-2 win in Texas Collegiate League action Sunday night at Riverside Stadium.

Brian Portelli's two-run double started the onslaught in the eighth, and Pedro Barrios topped it off with a two-run single.

Seven Generals each had two hits for the night. Barrios recorded four RBIs.

Ryan Benitez struck out three in seven innings for the win.

The Generals trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth inning. They tied it at 2 in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Kyle Danford and David Paiz.

Barrios gave the Generals a 3-2 lead when he singled in Danford.

Brian Portelli, Blake Cooper and Paiz each had two hits.

The Generals are now 11-9 in second half action and 33-17 overall.

They return to action Tuesday when they travel to meet host Brazos Valley Bombers for a two-game series.
