City accepting hotel tax fund applications through June
June 2, 2014 at 1:02 a.m.
The city of Victoria is accepting applications from local organizations seeking Hotel Occupancy Tax funds until June 30.
Under Texas law, the city of Victoria collects a hotel occupancy tax from hotels, bed and breakfasts and other lodging facilities. Revenue collected may only be used to promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry.
Priority is given to applicants based on ability to generate overnight visitors to Victoria, including the arts, historical, tourism and sporting organizations. Only those events and programs that generate meaningful hotel night activity will be eligible to receive funding.
All requests for funds must be submitted in writing and accompanied by the official application no later than 5 p.m. June 30 to: HOT funds committee; City Attorney's Office, 105 W. Juan Linn St., P.O. Box 1758, Victoria TX 77901.
Applications will be reviewed by the committee and recommendations will be made to the city council in July. The city council will make final decisions on funding.
Applications and more details on criteria, guidelines and eligibility are currently available on the city of Victoria website at victoriatx.org.
Informational sessions about the HOT funds application process will be at 10 a.m. June 11 and 25 at 700 Main Center, Room 205. Any potential applicant is welcome to attend and ask questions.
