The Palacios Community Hub's youth initiative won a $25,000 grant to improve its community.
To celebrate, the community hub will have a street rally at 5 p.m. Friday at its office, 205 4th St. in Palacios.
The grant is funded by State Farm with assistance from the Rural Literacy Coalition and garnered interest from 40 causes across the United States.
The Palacios Youth Initiative took home the prize by receiving the most votes during a three-week competition on Facebook, according to a news release.
"The Palacios Community Hub's Teen Center will allow teens to engage in positive recreational and educational diversion activities; keeping youth intellectually and physically active and less likely to enter into the criminal justice system," said coordinator Brandi West. "I'm overwhelmed with this exciting accomplishment, which is attributed to the community of Palacios and all the individuals around the globe believing in this worthy cause of housing a teen center."
