Titans place four on state tournament team

Victoria East placed four players on the UIL Baseball State Class 4A All-Tournament Team announced Saturday.

The Titans captured a 4-1 semifinal win over Richmond George Ranch on Thursday, before dropping a 4-0 decision to Aledo in the championship game Friday night at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Senior pitcher Kyle Craft, senior second baseman Tim Gleinser, and junior shortstop Jonathan Ortega were named to the team along with senior Adrian Gonzalez, who was chosen as a utility player.

Craft pitched a three-hitter and did not allow an earned run in the semifinal game. Ortega and Gonzalez each went 3 for 7 at the plate during the tournament.

Gleinser went 2 for 6 and started a key double play in the seventh inning of the semifinal game.

Flatonia placed three players on the Class 1A all-tournament team.

The Bulldogs beat Anson 5-3 in the semifinal game Wednesday before losing 10-0 to Douglass in the final Thurday at Dell Diamond.

Senior pitcher Mitchel Mica, sophomore shortstop Casen Novak and senior outfielder Wyatt Wehmeyer were named to the team.

Mica was the winning pitcher in the semifinal, Wehmeyer went a combined 2 for 3 at the plate, and Novak went a combined 2 for 7.
