Two Victoria men were transported to the hospital after the vehicle they were in crashed into an utility pole on Mallette Street Monday night.

Jonathan Hester, 23, of Victoria, was driving a 2004 Nissan 350Z northwest when he left the roadway at the 2000 block of Mallette Street, crashing into several trees and fences, said Victoria Police Department acting sergeant Bradley Hlavac.

Hester is suspected of driving while intoxicated, Hlavac said.

The vehicle also struck an utility pole owned by Victoria Electric Cooperative, which caused outages for 550 members, said Nina Campos, spokesperson with the company. The crew received the call about 10 p.m. and were able to restore power to 500 members by 11:20 p.m. and the final 50 at 2 a.m., she said.

Hester and the passenger in the vehicle, Clifton Kaiser, 19, of Victoria, were both transported to the hospital, Hlavac said. Kaiser was treated and released at Citizens Hospital.

Hester remained at DeTar Hospital Navarro Tuesday morning with non-incapacitating injuries, Hlavac said.
