Two Victoria men were transported to area hospitals after the vehicle they were in crashed Monday night into a utility pole on Mallette Drive.

Jonathan Hester, 23, of Victoria, was driving a 2004 Nissan 350Z northwest when he left the roadway at the 2000 block of Mallette Drive, crashing into several trees and fences, said Victoria Police Department acting Sgt. Bradley Hlavac.

Hester is suspected of driving while intoxicated, Hlavac said.

The vehicle also struck a utility pole owned by Victoria Electric Cooperative, which caused outages for 550 members, said Nina Campos, spokeswoman with the company.

The crew received the call about 10 p.m. and was able to restore power to 500 members by 11:20 p.m. and the final 50 at 2 a.m., she said.

Hester and the passenger in the vehicle, Clifton Kaiser, 19, of Victoria, were both transported to hospitals, Hlavac said. Kaiser was treated and released at Citizens Medical Center.

Hester remained at DeTar Hospital Navarro on Tuesday with injuries that were not life-threatening, Hlavac said.
