The Victoria County Farmers Market Association will have something new at the market Saturday, and it's not a vegetable.

Dancers from the Competitive Elite Dance Company with Ledwig Dance Academy will sell drinks and snacks as well as perform at the Saturday market in the Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center parking lot.

The group is planning a trip in March to visit New York City, said Stephanie Ledwig, director and dance instructor at the academy.

"They're going to take classes at the Broadway Dance Center," she said.

Drinks and snacks will be sold, and the girls between ages 10 and 16 will perform solo and group routines, Ledwig said.

"It's really helpful for them to perform in front of people," she said.

Deena Geistman, a member of the association, said she hopes the fundraiser will be the first of many to come.

"We are wanting the farmers market to grow and get more vendors and people out there," she said.

The group wants to provide a service for other charitable groups in the area and give shoppers a chance to help, too.

The farmers market is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m every Tuesday and Saturday and hosts a variety of vendors with homemade soaps, gluten-free baked goods, plants, locally grown fruits and vegetables and other goods.
