The Palacios Community Hub's Palacios Youth Initiative with assistance from the Rural Literacy Coalition will receive a $25,000 grant from State Farm to improve the Palacios community.
More than 82,000 people visited Facebook to support the Palacios Youth Initiative with 39,867 votes, which put the organization in the top 40 winning causes.
The Palacios Community Hub will have a party at 5 p.m. Friday at its location, 205 Fourth St.
The Palacios Guitar Academy will perform on the road immediately after State Farm representatives present the grant to the Hub.
"The Palacios Community Hub's Teen Center will allow teens to engage in positive recreational and educational diversion activities, keeping youth intellectually and physically active and less likely to enter into the criminal justice system," said Palacios Community Hub coordinator Brandi G. West.
The Palacios Youth Initiative was one of 4,000 causes received through State Farm Neighborhood Assist, a youth-led philanthropic program that empowers individuals of all ages to identify the issues they feel are the most important to their communities.
The State Farm Youth Advisory Board - a diverse group of 30 students who are passionate about social responsibility, manages the program and reviewed each of the 4,000 cause submissions, selecting the top 200 finalists using a scoring criterion they created. Then 200 finalists moved on to a public vote with the nonprofits of the top 40 vote-receiving causes receiving a $25,000 grant.
