A 36-year-old Canyon Lake man was flown to a Houston hospital Friday afternoon after suffering injuries from a crash involving two tractor-trailers on Farm-to-Market Road 530 near the Jackson County line.

Travis Smith was driving north, and Shannon Malandrakis, 42, of Westhoff, was going south when their vehicles collided with each other in the front left sides of the trucks, said Trooper Gerald Bryant, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred about 2:55 p.m. in Jackson County near the Lavaca County line, he said.

Malandrakis suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital, Bryant said, but Smith had more serious injuries and was flown to Memorial Hermann hospital. He was listed in fair condition Friday night.

The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the crash along with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Edna's police and fire departments.

The roadway was blocked for several hours after the accident. The investigation is ongoing, Bryant said.
