June 25, 2014 at 1:25 a.m.
Texas Border Volunteer officers Jim Gibson, Dr. Mike Vickers and Linda Vickers presented a power point program and question-and-answer session to more than 60 DeWitt and Lavaca county residents at the Republican Women of Yoakum meeting June 4.
They stated the border patrol in the Rio Grande Valley is overwhelmed and at a breaking point. People entering the country illegally are swamping the Texas Valley area by the thousands each day. The border patrol is losing more than it is catching.
Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon reports a big increase in human trafficking on Farm-to-Market Roads and back roads of Lavaca and DeWitt counties. Harmon warned citizens to always lock their doors and be watchful.
Republican Women of Yoakum meets at the Community Center in Yoakum the first Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. monthly with speakers and educational programs for citizens in the area. Lunch is served.
There will be no program at the July 2 meeting. This will be a members-only planning meeting to prepare for the Ted Cruz speaking event at 6 p.m. July 11.
