Republicans force Obama to use his pen

A recent letter to the editor titled "Obama has made America a laughing stock" made me sad as I read it. The writer is obviously sincere in his belief that what he writes is true. That's what I find so sad. The relentless attacks by Limbaugh, Fox talking heads and the propaganda machine financed by the likes of the Koch brothers have succeeded in brainwashing another good American. He is incensed that Obama used his pen instead of working with Congress, when in fact, it is Congressional Republicans' refusal to govern or work cooperatively that has forced Obama to use his pen to get anything done.
To date, Obama has issued 168 executive orders. A look to the past will show that George W. Bush issued 291 executive orders in two terms, Clinton had 364, and Reagan had 381. Go to The American Presidency Project website to learn more.
I agree with the writer of this letter when he says we have only five months to make up our minds. I am an independent voter. I used to view most Republican candidates favorably, and they often got my vote. So far, I don't see that present-day Republicans are acting in the best interests of the average American citizen. In the next election, I will find it very difficult to vote for any of them on the state or national level.
