A Victoria man was formally charged with setting fire to his stepfather's home in December.
A grand jury returned an indictment naming Jerry Leigh Garner on Thursday.
Garner, 20, is charged with arson, a first-degree felony.
Garner flagged down law enforcement Dec. 10.
This was after firefighters had worked to put out the flames at the home in the 1100 block of Sertuche Road.
Garner told law enforcement that he was upset and used an electric stove in the kitchen to ignite a newspaper. He then set the newspaper on his mother's bed, and the blankets caught on fire, according to a court document.
