A 25-year-old Victoria man was abducted from the parking lot of a convenience store earlier this week.

Victoria Police Department officers responded to a report of an aggravated kidnapping at 4:33 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of East Colorado Street, according to a news release.

Three men between 25 and 30 years old approached a man sitting in his car at the store in the 1300 block of East Rio Grande Street, brandished a handgun and entered the vehicle. They drove away from the store and demanded money from the man, according to the news release.

Eventually, the men ended up at a home on East Colorado Street, where they confronted a member of the victim's family.

"The family member, a 73-year-old Hispanic male, became upset with the demand and told the offenders to leave his residence," the report stated. "One or more of the offenders proceeded to assault the (older man) in the front yard of the residence before fleeing the scene."

The 73-year-old man refused medical treatment. Neither he nor the 25-year-old man chose to pursue charges for the kidnapping or the assault.

A Victoria police spokeswoman declined to comment about whether the department was looking for suspects or whether any money was obtained during the abduction.
