An oil tanker lost its load Monday morning northwest of Karnes City causing significant sections of Farm-to-Markets roads 81 and 1144 and adjacent county roads to be closed to allow cleanup.
The spill affected three miles of FM 81 and six miles of FM 1144. Consequently, FM 81 is closed from FM 1144 to County Road 217 and FM 1144 is closed from FM 81 to County Road 197, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Transportation in Corpus Christi.
The cleanup is expected to take most of Monday. Motorists should seek alternate routes while the cleanup is under way.
