Adulthood, employment workshops planned for special needs students

Two special education parent workshops will be presented by Partners Resource Network - Team Project.

Partners Resource Network is a parent training and information center funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education - Office of Special Education Programs.

The presenter, Brenda Nelson, is the Team Project regional coordinator for Victoria and surrounding areas. She is also the parent of a teen with a disability and brings personal perspective and experience to all her presentations.

"Transition to Adulthood" will be presented from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

This workshop will provide parents with Idea transition requirements for a student with a disability preparing for life after high school.

The workshop will cover aspects of transition planning, information typically included in a transition plan, how transition plans are developed and by whom, and resources for more information on transition.

"Solving the Employment Puzzle for Youth with Disabilities" will be presented from 10:45 a.m. to noon.

This workshop will provide parents and youth with practical, hands-on strategies to help reach a student's employment-related transition goals.

Participants will learn about post-secondary services that are available and how to obtain them.

After the workshops, Individual Support Service is available for parents to discuss specific questions or concerns about their child's special education services. Participants are asked to bring their ARD or IFSP paperwork.
